The Finnish Conference for Media and Communication Research MEVI2016 will take place Friday 8 and Saturday 9 April, 2016, at the Arcada UAS campus (Jan-Magnus Janssons plats 1, 00560 Helsinki, Finland).
The theme of the conference is Trust.
The first key note speaker is Professor Andrew Chadwick from London University. The second speaker is Professor Gunn Enli from Oslo University.
The conference takes a wide scope over the meaning of trust and lack thereof in media and communication. The trust between social actors and groups is built through conversation but also as a result of less visible struggles over meanings. On one hand, the key role is held by media actors and publicities created by them. On the other hand, open society and globalized media is founded on the trust of communication, media and messages.
Whose messages do we decide to trust? What kind of consequences do these have? The spectrum of both media and communication studies offers us opportunities to understand the deeper meanings of these roles and relations as part of the roaring social discussion.
The Finnish Conference for Media and Communication Research MEVI2016 is organized by the Finnish Association of Media and Communication Studies in co-operation with the Arcada UAS.
You are very welcome to Helsinki!
Andrew Chadwick is Professor of Political Science and Co-Director of the New Political Communication
Unit in the Department of Politics and International Relations at Royal Holloway, University of London.

Previously she has researched for example the impact of internet on TV and changes in audience involvement.
The web of (dis)trust
How can trust be earned? What creates distrust? Is “reliable” the same as “trusted”?
During the past year, there has been a lot of debate in Finland about, on one hand, the audiences’ trust in different media actors, and on the other hand, about the ability of journalism and media to create trust within society.
Can a corporation or brand produce trustworthy journalistic contents? Can content marketing be a part of journalism?
